🙏 Saint Monica — the mother who prayed tirelessly for seventeen years for the conversion of her son Augustine. Born in North Africa around 331, married to a pagan, she saw her brilliant son fall into a worldly life and heresies. She never stopped praying. She followed him to Italy. And finally, in Milan, Bishop Ambrose baptized Augustine in 387 — the greatest triumph of her life of faith. She died shortly after, in peace, at 56 years old. This devotional illustration in classic baroque oil painting style captures the most intimate moment of that story: Saint Monica kneeling in fervent prayer, hands clasped and eyes raised to heaven, while Augustine appears in the background in an attitude of anguish and reflection, with a lit candle and the Mediterranean landscape of Tagaste.
